Article Abstract:
The 2004-05 budget, which overlooks the amount being spent on innovation, has earned a lot of criticism from the opposition and the businesses. The announcement of $100 million over seven years to continue and expand the programs like COMET (Commercialising Emerging Technologies) will mere take the funding back to the level of initial stages of development.

Article Abstract:
The Dawson review of the Trade Practices Act initially held promise of a shift in competition regulation in favor of small business, but later failed to provide any meaningful reform. This view was reinforced in Melbourne on April 16 where the conclusion was that the playing field has titled too far in favor of big business.
