Article Abstract:
The tiny South Pacific nation of Tuvalu has experienced severe domestic turmoil in 1983. Funafuti, one of the islands that make up the nation, had threatened to secede after several Funafuti dancers were cut from the national troop. The Funafuti government and the national government were able to arrive at a compromise. The cuts were the results of a recession that followed a fall in the price of copra, Tuvalu's chief export. A former British colony, Tuvalu became independent in 1978.

The Brazilian steel industry enjoys some major advantages, such as inexpensive labor and low raw material costs. Although Brazilian steel plants are operating at near capacity, many of them are deep in the red.
