Article Abstract:
A record amount of common stock was issued during the stock market rally of 1983. A ranking of the leading underwriters of 1983 - in which full credit is given to the main underwriter in each offering - is presented. Leader Morgan Stanley is suffering from falling market share, while Goldman Sachs and Salomon Brothers have both gone up in the ranking. Merrill Lynch is ranked third instead of first because it is a frequent co-underwriter.

Article Abstract:
Newspapers' advertising revenues are on the rise, largely as a result of economic recovery. Increasing automation and a drop in paper prices and other costs have led to lower overheads for many newspapers. Analysts are thus recommending many newspaper stocks. Strongly recommended newspaper stocks include the New York Times and the Times Mirror. Analyses of several other newspaper stocks are included.

Article Abstract:
A technical analysis of the strong 1983 stock market is presented. In spite of the strength of the 1983 market, the outlook for 1984 is much less clear. Historically, stock market rallies have been followed by drops in the succeeding year. However, these drops have often been of a relatively minor nature. A chart of great stock market rallies and their aftermaths is included.
