The Small New Business Bankers
Article Abstract:
Many small businesses literally could not survive without the monies they recieve from banks, yet many banks are unwilling to take chances on small, often risky business that may fail. To fill this banking gap, there is a new breed of bank and bankers who like to form a solid relationship with their clients, and who base their lending decisions on instinct as much as on hard facts. Although many large banks are now seeing the advantage of having the small entrepreneurs as clients, small and medium sized banks seem to be able to offer more to the small or start-up business. Small banks can often view each customer on their individual merits, instead of trying to mold them into a set of bank regulations. Small banks can orient their thinking towards a relationship, not a set of rules, and this is an advantage when dealing with the small and medium sized business. Often customers of these excellent small and medium sized banks love to go to the bank - an attitude that many who deal with the banking giants find incomprehensible. This is the way banking started out - small banks in the business of providing service for their clients - and many banks in the 1980s are rediscovering how well these old time values work.

Bread in Boards
Article Abstract:
Rick Ramas and his wife, who own a computer store, noticed that many of their customers were looking for add-ons to increase the memory and uses for small computers. So Ramas developed an insertable board which allows computers to run on three operating systems. Although Ramas fully believes that small companies like his can challenge industry giants, there are some critics of the idea who claim that trying to shake up the likes of IBM is just an impossible dream for the small guy.
