The effect of information sources and communication channels on the diffusion of innovation in a data base development environment
Article Abstract:
The systems development life cycle methodology is used to study the diffusion of innovation in the development of information technology (IT) to determine the effect of information sources and communication channels on the process. This approach gives a comprehensive framework in which to study the diffusion of techniques and tools that are used to facilitate data base design. A field study of Houston-area organizations using data base technology revealed the relationship between communication and technical innovation at the individual and organizational levels. The study revealed that innovation at the organizational level is significantly influenced by communication of innovation and information sources while innovation at the individual level is not, and that only certain classes of innovations are affected.

Information technology implementation research: a technological diffusion approach
Article Abstract:
Sixty-two manufacturing facilities in the US were analyzed to determine how material requirements planning (MRP), a type of inventory control and production information system, has been adopted in various locations. The focus of the analysis was on the interaction of information technology and managerial tasks. Research results indicate that the interaction of managerial tasks and information technology does affect whether MRP is adopted. However, interaction does not seem to be a factor in the infusion of MRP. The results suggest that when examining the concept of infusion, it may be more useful to use learning and political models instead of rational decision models.
