The front end of new product development: a Canadian survey
Article Abstract:
A survey of 15 firms in the integrated circuit board industry attempts to demystify the predevelopment stages of a new product. These stages are currently regarded as unstructured and unmanageable. Results of the analysis using means, variance and t-tests provided clearer activities that can be initiated to prepare products for development.

The use and importance of external sources of knowledge in the software development process
Article Abstract:
Studies of software projects indicate that significant differences exist between software projects and tangible hardware with regard to the levels of importance of various sources and the knowledge obtained from them. An example is the uncertainty inherent in communicating expectations for software.
