The impact of the multi-divisional structure on organizational slack: the contingency of diversification strategy
Article Abstract:
Researchers investigated the relationships between the different forms of organisational slack and the different forms of multi-divisional structure. They made a longitudinal analysis of 62 firms which had adopted one of the three forms of multi-divisional structure. Results indicate that vertical integration and related diversification increase the organization's ability to manage absorbed slack, and that unrelated diversification increases a firm's ability to manage unabsorbed slack.
