The key to real teamwork: understanding the numbers
Article Abstract:
Springfield Remanufacturing Corp (SRC) has adopted a participative management-based strategy for its manufacturing operations. Critical to the strategy is a training program that ensures that all employees, known as players, possess sufficient understanding of accounting information in order to effectively perform their functions in compliance with prescribed rules while keeping track of variances in their areas of production. The training program involves a goal-orientation program, an accounting education program, a planning process that will function as the preparatory step to the creation of a master budget, and actual involvement of players in weekly meetings on current accounting data. True employee involvement in SRC's finncial performance is further encouraged among employees through rewards and an employee stock ownership program.
