The learning organisation: rhetoric or reality?
Article Abstract:
Many companies are now aware that the constant acquisition of knowledge is vital if they are to remain competitive. This is behind the development of the concept of the 'learning organisation.' Recent research has looked at this concept, considering what it means in practice for various companies. It was found that it is vital to encourage 'all round learners' and that there must be both formal and informal learning structures. There is a need to go beyond individual learning, moving towards collective learning.

Expatriates - what helps them adapt?
Article Abstract:
Many international businesses experience expensive failures in expatriate placements. However, businesses can take steps to prevent the occurrence of early terminations. Research amongst expatriates working in Cairo, Egypt, revealed the factors which had helped and hindered their adaptation to the new environment. Helpful factors included own choice of accommodation, realistic attitude towards the new country, presence of spouse, a safe environment, and opportunities for leisure and social interaction.
