The pain and gain of devolution and empowerment
Article Abstract:
New trends are developing in people management which represent a truly radical departure from approaches which have been in use since the 1960s. Now, the psychological link between employer and employed is being considered in a new light, an understanding of the implications of a ' learning organisation' is emerging and the added value of the traditional managerial role is being re-assessed. It is clear that these changes are necessary if continual improvement is to be achieved.

Development - on or off the rails?
Article Abstract:
Organisations are rarely focused on company objectives because career development is considered to be an individual, rather than dependent, process. Companies often lose sight of management goals because employees are focused on different ones. Example cases of poor management involving the financial services industry and the prison service are described.
