The role of technology strategy in industrial strategies
Article Abstract:
Large corporations typically view technology in three ways, namely, as a mission, as a commodity and as a competence. In the last few years, more companies have been viewing technology as a competence, rather than as a mission or a commodity. Companies that consider technology as a competence should be able to identify where their competences lie so that they can use them to advantage. Such identification can be facilitated by restructuring the corporate planning and management system. One company that has been trying to do this is Finmeccanica, Italy's second-largest manufacturing group.

Article Abstract:
The turbulent and complicated global business environment is making the task of strategic and corporate planners more difficult. In addition, the availability of varied data has also made the creation of a realistic organizational vision laborious. These obstacles can be overcome with the application of mental imagery in strategic planning procedures. Mental imagery involves visualizing pictures, events and scenarios in the mind's eye. The successful application of mental imagery to business planning is discussed.
