The spending squeeze: last year, the big advertisers were wary, but now they are ready to splash out

National media advertising expenditure rose by only 3.3% in Australia in 1999. Among the top 50 advertisers, the only sector to see strong expansion in media advertising expenditure was telecommunications. The prospects for improved expenditure in 2000 are discussed.
