Can we trust managers to collaborate?
Article Abstract:
Modern business managers proclaim the advantages of good collaboration, both within their own firm and in relationships with other firms. A survey of 50 managers reveals that they actually experience a climate of mistrust and security. They attribute this to a range of factors including a focus on personal career aspirations and inadequate strength in management. However, collaboration requires an openness which is not possible in a competitive business environment. Respect and cooperation can be better won through the employment of good political skills.

Organisational transformation requires the presence of leaders who are strategists and magicians
Article Abstract:
A common belief among managers is that strategic change can be achieved through careful planning. However, the failure of many strategic changes shows that this is not always true. Research suggests that significant change will not prevail without managers being aware of three key developmental characteristics, namely the technician stage, the achiever stage and the strategist stage.
