These two companies want to help you step out tonight
Article Abstract:
Microsoft and CitySearch have sites on the Web that provide people with information about arts, dining and entertainment in their hometowns. Several other companies are beginning to join the local entertainment guide business, attempting to profit from the advertisements. The largest obstacle faced by these companies is that using the Internet can be a hassle while checking the newspaper is relatively easy. The benefits of searching on a computer is that computers can sift and sort through hugh quantities of material and provide lists of activities based on personal inquiries. Microsoft's site is called Sidewalk and is more short-term events oriented. CitySearch, which is the company and Web sites name, has an excellent balance of events and permanent listings.

Going on-line is still too difficult to lure a mass audience
Article Abstract:
Accessing and traversing the Web is more difficult than many novices are likely to expect when they initially engage online services. The technologically sophisticated in our society have access to advanced computer equipment that greatly abbreviates the processes under which occasional computer users struggle. The service, speed and reliability offered by online service providers varies dramatically each time users attempt to access the Internet, and downloading material often takes an inconveniently long time. Users of online news groups, chat rooms and bulletin boards often encounter salacious or personal material produced by people that use their anonymous position to publish whatever they like.
