They'll Get It for You Wholesale
Article Abstract:
All employees of Dupuis & Ryden have the chance to participate in a unique program. The company offers a deal through which employees can purchase a complete Apple microcomputer system. The company not only negotiated a discount rate for the computers, but also pays all the interest charges, and lets the employees pay off the machines through payroll deductions. Aside from offering a desirable benefit to employees, the company has realized a number of unexpected benefits itself. Employees have become more familiar with computers, which has helped their work; and the program has become a good public relations tool for the company. Employees can use their computers to work at home, but this is not required. The employees have become highly motivated, as they realize that their company has offered them something that not too many other companies would offer. The computer purchasing program has offered benefits to both employees and employer, which makes it a highly successful program.

Gone, but not Forgotten
Article Abstract:
When a computer company goes out of business or files for reorganization, it leaves behind the customers who have purchased its equipment, and often has no recourse for servicing or parts. One such company was Osborne, a computer manufacturer which filed for Chapter 11. Once the company took that step, Osborne users, who at first panicked, formed groups which help members solve equipment problems, locate software, or repair facilities. The Chapter 11 filing of Osborne has spawned a whole new industry of small companies (or parts of large companies such as Xerox) which services Osborne machines. But Osborne users are a group which believes in the product - some have continued to buy Osborne despite the reorganization - and some have even turned the difficulties of the Osborne company into business opportunities for themselves.

Organized Time
Article Abstract:
There are many programs available for the microcomputer which can take over many of the dreary day-to-day, routine types of chores for busy executives. These programs can keep track of appointments, locate phone numbers, and remind the executive of his schedule for the day. But because many of the programs demanded the total use of a computer their appeal was limited, and sales of these programs were sluggish. Finally, however, time management programs have been developed which can operate in conjunction with other programs that the executive may be using. There is developing a loyal group of time management program followers who now feel they could not do without their computer secretaries, and who feel they are more productive and better organized because of them.
