Time to Break with the Past
Article Abstract:
A restructuring of labor-management relationships is examined. Unions are becoming more involved in management problems and are helping to find solutions. Union leaders from the United Auto Workers (UAW), United Steelworkers of America (USWA) and the United Mine Workers think management should be using its manpower more efficiently. Unions are pressing for participative management and job security. Unions are losing memberships due to shrinking incomes and layoffs and as a result are examining their internal structure.
