Tobacco: Clinton proposes youth antismoking plan

Pres Clinton announced on Aug 10, 1995, that he was authorizing the FDA to regulate the sale and advertisement of cigarettes. The new regulations include a ban on vending machine sales and distribution of free samples. Tobacco firms and advertisers plan to challenge the new regulations.

Clinton speeds cancer drug approval
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton unveiled changes to hasten the FDA drug approval process for cancer drugs. The approval will be shortened from 1 year to six months so patients can get the drugs sooner. This change was in part a response to Republican efforts to deregulate the FDA.
