The taxation scenario in Australia is presented. According to The Economist reports on tax comparisons, there is little chance of reducing taxes below the modest 31.2% of gross domestic product. The last time direct taxes on income were below 50% of the total was forty years ago and the highest level was 58.5% in 1975 and 2000.

A study of the BRW Top 500 private companies of 2004 reveals that some of the companies have shown striking performances. The over all sector has shown solid growth and fewer companies of the previous list failed to make it to this list. The robust growth in this sector reflects the corresponding growth in the overall economy.
