Japan and the US settled their long-running motor vehicles and parts trade dispute on June 28, 1995, thereby forestalling the imposition of 100% US tariffs on some Japanese-made luxury automobiles. The agreement calls for voluntary increases in US exports to Japan, but does not impose quotas.
