U.S. approval set for Northwest/KLM link

The Dept of Transportation issued preliminary approval on Nov 16, 1992, for the merger of Northwest Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The US and the Netherlands had signed a treaty in Sep 1992 clearing the way for such mergers.

U.S., Netherlands sign 'open-skies' pact
Article Abstract:
The US and the Netherlands signed an air treaty on Sep 4, 1992, that removed most of the restrictions on flights between the two countries. Northwest and KLM hoped to take advantage of the 'open-skies' pact by merging.

Continental accepts Air Canada bid

Continental Airlines Holdings on Nov 9, 1992, accepted an offer of $450 million from Air Canada and Air Partners for its airline unit Continental Airlines. Continental Airlines filed for bankruptcy in Dec 1990.
