Article Abstract:
The Institutional Brokers Estimate System (IBES) predicts a 5.9% reduction of corporate earnings for 1991 in the US. The forecasts are based on IBES' survey of 2,400 security analysts connected with publicly traded firms. The transportation sector is expected to show best growth performance with revenues that are predicted to go up by 198.7% in 1992. The industries that are predicted to have sluggish growth performance for 1992 include investments, home products and electrical utilities.

US corporate earnings are expected to increase by 31.7% in 1992 based on the US Institutional BrokersEstimate System (I/B/E/S) Universe of publicly traded firms. However, estimatesfor the I/B/E/S Universe are down -4.7% and -3.8% for 1992 and 1993, respectively. The transportation sector was forecast to exhibit 1992's highest calculable growth rate for the eleven economic sectors, while its mean estimates for the same period have gone down.

US corporate earnings will rise by a high 30.4% for the whole of 1992. Next year, the growth rate will be lower at 23.4%. These forecasts are based on the US Institutional Brokers Estimate System (I/B/E/S) Universe of 3,937 publicly traded firms as of Jun 17, 1992. The June survey covered 2,400 security analysts affiliated with more than 150 institutional brokerage and research firms.
