US services build their case for more export supports
Article Abstract:
The U.S. service industry is making a major effort to promote international business. Insurance, banking, engineering-construction and data processing industries are good examples. Service industry groups want a new set of international rules such as GATT. Part of the problem has been difficulty in gathering accurate statistics. U.S. needs legislation that helps with export of US services. Reagan administration favors such laws.

According to the South Korean government's five-year plan to compete in world markets protectionism will be reduced. Imports of consumer goods increase, and exports of textiles, electronic products, and machinery grow.
