U.S. sets antidumping tariffs on steel

The Commerce Department on Jan 27, 1993, established tariffs on steel imports from 19 countries accused by the US steel industry of selling steel in the US at prices lower than in the exporters' domestic markets. Canada established tariffs on steel imports from several countries two days later.

U.S.-Canada panel strikes lumber duties

Canadian exporters celebrated the decision of a trade panel comprised of representatives from the US and Canada, which ordered the Commerce Dept to reevaluate the 6.5% tariff imposed on Canadian imports of softwood lumber to the US.
