The US announced Feb 1, 1993, that it would not grant contracts to companies from the European Community (EC) for telecommunications and power-generation services in retaliation for an EC directive effective Jan 1, 1993, ordering EC governments to favor EC telecommunications and power generation firms.

Quayle implies GATT, security link
