Uses of the Internet in the global hotel industry
Article Abstract:
Market research on use of the Internet by international hotels associated use with organizational characteristics and location. Most of the hotel properties studied, which are members of the Global Hoteliers organization, have a Web site and make use of e-mail. Despite Internet use, the number of reservations made online was small. Hotels rated at 3-, 4- and 5-stars used e-mail much more than those with lesser ratings, with most of the e-mails used to contact staff, managers and corporate offices.

Expansion strategy of international hotel firms
Article Abstract:
The theoretical framework that combines both transaction cost economies (TCE) and agency theory (AT) is used to identify the country- and firm-specific factors that influence the choice among international hotel franchising, management contracts, and company ownership. The results show that most influential factor on the development decision is the degree of proprietary content and idiosyncratic knowledge embedded in the service provided.
