Validating expert systems: a demonstration using Personal Choice Expert, a flexible employee benefit system
Article Abstract:
A method for evaluating expert systems based on the Turing Test is discussed. The Turing Test evaluates expert systems according to the similarity between the system and expert decisions, expert information collection and the difference between expert and novice decisions. The method was also used to evaluate the Personal Choice Expert (PCE) system which helps employees select benefits from a flexible benefit plans. Results show little difference between PCE and expert decisions.

Virtual teams versus face-to-face teams: an exploratory study of Web-based conference systems
Article Abstract:
A study of the implications of computer-mediated communication systems on the performance of work groups showed face-to-face teams working more effectively than teams communicating through the Internet. This finding is related to the relational links between team members that cannot be effected in computer-mediated communication systems. It is these relational links which contributes significance to the informational exchange between team members.

Cellular versus functional layouts under a variety of shop operating conditions
Article Abstract:
Manufacturing companies now have the option of using cellular manufacturing (CM) to make their factories more efficient. CM can be used in non-repetitive manufacturing, and involves grouping similar parts together that have similar functions. One study of CM in operation has shown that practitioners and academics do not agree on the value or otherwise of CM on operational overlap and cuts in setup time.
