Viewlogic expects to post sharp rise in first-period net
Article Abstract:
Software publisher Viewlogic Systems Inc looks forward to a steep rise in net income to $1 million for its 1st qtr FY 1992, its first as a publicly held company, as well as a 30 percent increase in revenue to $12 million. These results will be due to major sales to auto manufacturers and increased revenue in Japan and Europe. Viewlogic had 1991 European losses of $2 million, which should be compensated for by improved revenue. Viewlogic's major product line is electronic engineering software that aids in designing semiconductor chips and circuit boards. Workview, its prime product, lets designers simulate the chips' behavior before they are manufactured. The computer-aided engineering market is expected to expand 17 percent annually through 1995, increasing Viewlogic's revenue by 30 percent in 1992 and doubling its earnings per share. Viewlogic will have to expand its product base to keep up with its competitors.

Parametric says net nearly doubled on strong sales rise in its 4th quarter
Article Abstract:
Parametric Technology Corp announces that it will report significant earnings gains for its 4th qtr 1990. The maker of computer-aided design software reports net income of $1.7 million for the quarter compared with $915,000 for the same period a year ago. Revenue for the most recent quarter is $8 million, up from $4 million for the comparable period a year ago. Parametric competes in the market with powerhouse firms such as IBM, Prime Computer Inc and McDonnell Douglas Corp. The firm claims the economic slowdown has not affected its earnings because its software is a strategic investment that can help save time and money. Analysts say Parametric has been able to carve out a piece of the market by offering its software on virtually any workstation, not bundling it with hardware.
