Wanna bet, sport?
Article Abstract:
Sports betting is a growing business in Australia, and the use of the Internet helps its operators to reach overseas bettors. There are 31 sports-betting operations in Australia, with an estimated annual turnover of $300 million. Government betting agencies have more outlets but lag behind private sports-betting operators, especially Centerbet and Darwin All Sports. Darwin All Sports had a turnover of more than $40 million in 1Q 1999, and most of its business is with overseas clients. Centerbet transacts 50% of its business on the Internet.
