LANE KIRKLAND, GEORGE MEANY'S SUCCESSOR AS AFL-CIO PRESIDENT, FACES THE CHALLENGE OF A MIGRATION OF FACTORIES AND JOBS FROM THE UNIONIZED NORTH, TO THE RIGHT-TO-WORK SUNBELT STATES AND IS FACING A CHANGE IN MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES RESULTING IN MORE NONUNION PLANTS. A REPUBLICAN VICTORY AT THE POLLS, WOULD MEAN MORE DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD. MR. KIRKLAND IS REMAINING NEUTRAL IN THE DEMOCRATIC RACE.
