What determines the scope of the firm over time? A focus on institutional relatedness
Article Abstract:
An argument is presented which suggests that in addition to product relatedness, a focus on institutional relatedness will help to answer the question of 'what determines the scope of the firm'. This question is addressed both longitudinally (firms in developed and emerging economies overtime) and cross-sectional (developed versus emerging economies), thus contributing to an institution-based theory of corporate diversification.
