New technologies support ABC
Article Abstract:
Many activity-based costing (ABC) initiatives have failed as a result of the absence of the required technology tools. A survey of financial and operating executives in North America reveals that ABC programs are undermined by existing systems and that the full benefits of ABC can be enjoyed only if data collection systems are improved. Fortunately, many new technologies that can enhance the ability of ABC to improve business performance are emerging in the market, thereby leading to a more strategic, value-added role for financial managers. These instruments include client/server, the activity manager, data warehouses, decision-support system and workflow and agent technologies. Companies must know when to use these tools to achieve maximum success.
