Women's group is set to present its Good, Bad and Ugly Awards
Article Abstract:
Advertising Women of New York will hold its annual Good, Bad and Ugly Awards ceremony, meant both as a dig and an encouragement towards portrayals of women in advertising. The luncheon coincides with the release of a Smart Girl Internette Inc. report confirming advertising's negative influence on young women. The Grand Bad awards go to Frito-Lay and Victoria's Secret. Others singled out were Anheuser-Busch and World Wrestling Federation. Positive awards went to FCB Worldwide, Wieden & Kennedy and Leagas Delaney. Advertising Women of New York hopes to point out that industry women, and consumers, are watching.

When dot-coms want to build up their images, they hitch their Web sites to a star
Article Abstract:
Internet business seek to build brand recognition by using celebrities in their advertisements. Endorsements can help build credibility, if there is a fit between what the celebrity represents and the product, like an author endorsing books sold at the barnesandnobles.com site. Other times a star like Sophia Loren is seen as appealing to a wide audience. Still other spokespeople are endorsing sites that they have invested in.
