IBM names two executives to top committee

International Business Machines Corp. announced two new appointments to the executive committee, Abby Kohnstamm and James Vanderslice. Abby Kohnstamm will become the new senior vice president of corporate marketing and in so doing will become the first female member on a board of twelve executives. Ms. Kohnstamm is credited with recasting IBM's image through an advertising campaign aimed at a more hip internet audience. Ms. Kohnstamm will become the highest ranking female at IBM.

AlliedSignal net rises by 15%; aerospace cited

Morris Township, NJ-based AlliedSignal Inc. reported that second-quarter earnings rose 15% to $350 million, caused by soaring profits in aerospace products and services. The company said many of its businesses gained from improvements in the European markets, however weaknesses in the Asian market is not expected to improve before 1999.
