Listen to this browser
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 boasts some new features. It exemplifies the evolution of the Internet browser into an entertainment as well as an informational resource. Configured to deliver sound and video files at a mouse click, the software still takes up about 100 megabytes of space on the hard drive. New functions make it possible to search history files. Buttons devoted to specific types of searches (people, Web sites, newsgroups, maps, etc) have been added. The radio features make it possible to listen to streaming audio delivered digitally onto the Internet by radio stations all over the world. The new features and the integration of the browser with the operating system works well but also positions Microsoft as a competitor to several Web services and adds fuel to the arguments over the company's anticompetitive practices.
