Dooner to take reins at Interpublic Group

The succession plan at Interpublic Group is finally revealed; John J. Dooner, Jr. will succeed Philip Geier, Jr. on April Fool's Day. Dooner has been chief executive of McCann-Erickson Worldwide where he propelled the ad agency into a full-service marketing firm, wtih clients such as Microsoft, MasterCard and Motorola. Dooner plans to follow Geier's plan of expansion beyond McCann and the Lowe Group.

Y&R's new chief brings wealth of experience, but not in ads

Young & Rubicam's chairman-to-be, Michael Dolan's background as a former business consultant of Booz-Allen & Hamilton, PepsiCo and Peter Kiewet Sons may actually equip him quite well to lead his company in competition against the world's biggest ad giants and their experienced chiefs. WPP Group chief Martin Sorrell has given Dolan freedom to run Y&R exactly as he wants for 1 year and former executives who have worked with the new man cite his dexterity. Dolan, formerly Y&R finance chief, took the company from debt to profit.

Martin Agency heads west to TV land
Article Abstract:
Richmond, Virginia's Martin Agency is moving to San Francisco to expand television capabilities and dot com and high tech-start-up ad dollars, with Todd Grant as creative director. Grant was wooed from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners where he brought us the Budweiser lizards and "Got Milk?" ads. Martin Agency will also be in a city where there is a plethora of broadcast talent.
