Russian Pres Yeltsin, parliament speaker Khasbulatov and the supporters of each man Feb 5-20, 1993, aggressively debated Russia's political and constitutional future. A key issue is whether the president or the Congress of the People's Deputies should be the ultimate authority in the nation.

Yeltsin prevails in Russian referendum
Article Abstract:
Pres Yeltsin won 58% of the vote in the referendum held on Apr 25, 1993. Some 65% of registered voters participated in the referendum, which was designed to improve public support for Yeltsin.
