Article Abstract:
In a move towards geographic diversity, Sacramento-based McClatchey Newspapers acquired the Minneapolis Star Tribune from Cowles Media for $1.4 billion, and increased the number of its employees to 7,700, a nearly 40% jump. It is now the 8th largest newspaper company, circulation-wise. Gary Pruitt, the current CEO, defends this acquisition that analysts did not advise and must lead the company to prosperity from its current financial position of being $1 billion in debt.
