4 STATE SUGAR UNITS TO START OPERATIONS
Article Abstract:
The Indian government had permitted establishment of 11 sugar units in the co-operative sector in Karnataka, out of which four will begin crushing operations in 1998. The four units are Raithara Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane at Mudhol, Dhanalaxmi SSK at Belgaum, Bhimashankar SSK at Indi and Markandeya SSK at Belgaum. These new units will have a daily crushing capacity of 2,500 tonnes each. Besides these, the Mandya National Paper Mills is also establishing a 2,500 tonnes sugar factory. (uh)

DHAMPUR SUGAR PUTS 3 UNITS ON THE BLOCK

The Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd has put up two sugar units and a paper mill for sale to reduce its debt obligations. It hopes to raise Rs80-100 crore from the sale which will be used to reduce its debt burden of Rs240 crore. It says that reducing its debt burden will bring down interest outgo by Rs20 crore. The company operates 5 sugar units, one paper mill, a chemical plant and a particle board unit. (khr)
