MILLERS IRKED OVER MEAGRE RISE IN SUGAR IMPORT DUTY
Article Abstract:
The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has sought rise in customs duty on sugar. ISMA is not satisfied with the present customs duty and feels that the increase in duty is meagre. ISMA claims that the duty imposed by the Indian government on sugar is the lowest in the world. Currently, the industry has to pay a total import duty of 20 percent and a countervailing duty of Rs850 per quintal. They feel that the meagre rise in import duty will not help bring down imports.
