83% of adults read daily newspapers
Article Abstract:
A daily newspaper readership data study, dubbed as the NADbank '98, has found out that only 83% of adults, or those aged 18 and above, in Canada reads a daily newspaper. The study also noted the average amount of time spent by Canadians during weekdays in reading daily newspapers is 45 minutes and nearly double that amount of time during weekends. Managers, executives and professionals represent the greatest number of weekly readers among adults, with 3.53 million, followed by working men with 3.32 million.

Rejecting the Regie

Canadian firms operating in Quebec are hesitant to run contests in the province because of the 10% tax imposed by the Regie, the government agency that regulates alcohol, lotteries and gaming in the province. As a result of the games tax, firms avoid including Quebec in their game promotion operations. Firms consider the high games tax imposed by the Regie as an additional burden to their already tight promotional budgets.

Mastering the art of fundraising
Article Abstract:
Universities in soutwestern Ontario, such as the University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, Brock University and University of Guelph, have managed to obtain money for their operating budgets through fundraising. They extract financial contributions from alumni and corporate sponsors mainly through affinity programs. Other forms of fundraising include telemarketing, co-op and work-study programs.
