A British tug of war
Article Abstract:
There is a residential conflict on whether an "urban renaissance" should be carried out in the UK or whether UK residents should seek dreamhouses in such areas as suburbs. Merchant cities such as London could remain strong due to the attractiveness of their inner neighborhoods, but industrial cities such as Birmingham may need an improved quality of life for their renaissance to succeed.

Art for whose sake?
Article Abstract:
The people of London want the public realm to be like Broadgate development by the Liverpool Street Station, which has a high-quality, carefully considered piece of urban renewal with properly commissioned buildings. They want to make a new place with expensive materials and, critically, with plenty of art as it is viewed that art in the public realm creates a quality environment.

The economist Kate Barker has published her 150-page report, which addresses the problem of UK's perceived housing shortage. The key highlight of the report is to double the number of new homes that is built and to spend 1.2-1.6 pounds billion more each year on affordable homes.
