A-I, IA FLOAT RESERVATION Co WITH ABACUS
Article Abstract:
Air-India (A-I) and Indian Airlines (IA) are tying up with Abacus India to market computer reservation systems (CRS). They will launch a new company called Sitar-Abacus Information Ltd by the end of 1998. The two airlines will hold a 51 percent stake in the new company while the rest will be held by Abacus and Tata Consultancy Services. A-I and IA already operate a CRS called Sitar in a tie up with Sabre of the US. It has a 20 percent share of the reservation market now. (khr)

BT, BHARTI TO FORM JV FOR NET-RELATED SERVICES

British Telecom (India) (BT) and Bharti Enterprise plan to set up a joint venture called Bharti BT Internet Ltd to offer Internet- related services in India. It will operate in the Internet and multimedia sectors along with becoming an Internet Service Provider. It will also offer value-added services like e-mail, web hosting, intranets and e-commerce services. Bharti will hold a 51 percent stake in the proposed venture while BT will hold a 49 percent stake. McCann Erickson India and Enterprise-Nexus, a member of the Lowe group, have entered into an alliance to float a 50:50 joint venture called InterMedia for media buying business in India. The combined billing of the two partners of Rs350 crore will make InterMedia one of the top five companies in media buying and planning. Ms Ambika Srivastava, senior vice president, media services of McCann-Erickson will head InterMedia. (gs)
