Article Abstract:
According to Dr KK Prasada Rao, of Sugarcane Breeding Institute and All India Co-ordinator of Project Sugar Cane, neem compounds and neem derivatives are fast emerging as commercially viable potent anti-feedants and cheap bio-pesticides. Some of the commercial formulations containing neem derivatives are, Nivaar, which reduces the occurrence of whitefly in sugarcane to 10.2 percent from 64.8 percent and Repelin, a neem formulation used in paddy fields in Andhra Pradesh. The use of three neem formulations, Emol, Vemidin and Nemidin, results in high antifeedant activity against the larvae of Achoea Janata. Some of the neem formulations released in the market are Repelin, Spic- NF, Neem Guard, Neemata 2000, Neemrich II, Neemark, Navneem and Nivaar. (gsh)

Article Abstract:
Bhagiradha Chemicals had mobilised Rs2.47 crore through a public issue in March 1996 to part-finance a Rs10 crore project to produce pesticides and chlorypriphos. It produced 210 tonnes of pesticides in 1996-97 against an installed capacity of 300 tonnes per annum. It declared a net sales of 6.45 crore against projections of Rs9.16 crore in 1996-97. The company posted a net loss of 0.20 crore on sales of Rs5.22 crore in the first half of 1997-98. Its scrip is hardly traded at the bourses. (khr)
