A contemporary sense of history in the Louvre
Article Abstract:
In Paris, Catherine Bizouard and Francois Pin, architects, have designed new rooms to house the Louvre's exhibits of foreign sculpture, from what were the old imperial stables. The design is contemporary, but blends with existing stonework, particularly the in-situ concrete stairways in white. Consistency in colour of the concrete was vital. Added to a mix of concrete were two gravels and two sands, with plastifying water reduction and retarder agents, allowing extra time to work with the concrete.

RIBA to 'give away' library collections to good home
Article Abstract:
The RIBA aims to establish a sister trust to house some of its fast-deteriorating special collections of drawings, models and photographs. The Institute has insufficient funds itself to maintain the collection. The new trust, to be called the 'Archive of Architecture', would involve a combination of private and public sector trustees and quangos, including English Heritage.
