A fair way to plan?; assessing the golf course boom
Article Abstract:
Before the mid 1980's it was difficult to obtain permission to convert farmland into golf courses. The need to minimise production and falling farm incomes has led to an easing in this situation, and many more golf clubs are now being built. Reports recommend that the ratio should be one club per 25,000 people, with some provision for 'pay and play' courses. There is evidence that pay and play courses have not been provided during the boom, and that golf courses create new forms of countryside with difficult access.

There will continue to be an increase in mergers and acquisitions activity, according to speakers at the recent 'Acquiring in Europe' conference hosted by 'Acquisitions Monthly' magazine. They emphasised that it is very important to build up information about target companies, and that this information should be verified by direct contact. Delegates were also given information about the merger and acquisition habits of various different nationalities.
