Forming alliances to fight disease
Article Abstract:
The European pharmaceutical industry's increasing focus on the concept of 'disease management' has great implications for merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the sector. Disease management is a response to the growing pressures on the drug industry, and aims to integrate health care throughout the entire supply chain, including patient education, screening, diagnosis, co-ordinated treatment and monitoring the outcome of treatment. However, drugs firms have no experience in many elements of this chain, and will therefore need partners in areas outside pharmaceuticals.

LGV wins court case but Hosking may fight on
Article Abstract:
Former MBI consultant George Hosking might appeal against the court's decision not to prosecute British business Legal and General Ventures (LGV) for dismissing him during its acquisition of multinational corporation British Petroleum. Hosking expected to receive four million pounds sterling in compensation after the court heard that he had introduced the business venture to LGV. The court concluded that Hosking had no legitimate claim to the money.
