Overfishing has become a global problem that is affecting the balance of marine resources and that has not responded to attempts to manage fishery resources. Better management and aquaculture are the most promising approaches to saving the future of fishing.

Good marine policy should limit access to resources and transfer resources to private ownership and local control. Establishing reserves is the best way to protect important habitats. Management should vary for each type of marine environment.
