A healthy prognosis for a resilient economy
Article Abstract:
The Philippine economy's prospects for growth remain favorable despite occasional slumps, particularly within its stock market. The transition to democratic rule, coupled with significant economic infrastructure reforms initiated by Pres. Corazon Aquino and sustained by Pres. Fidel Ramos, have helped boost the country's economy. The major concerns that need to be addressed to ensure continued growth include tax reform, inflation control and currency stability.

In Vietnam's shifting economy, tabloid tells consumers what to buy, not what to buy into
Article Abstract:
The Vietnamese tabloid 'Saigon Thep Thi' has enjoyed considerable success since its introduction in 1995. Unlike conventional publications, the paper features consumer interest stories such as the prices of water filters or the educational content of children's books. Editor Kim Hanh says that the paper appeals to the country's rising middle class and aims to increase circulation from 50,000 to 80,000 by the end of 1996.
