A modernised rolling mill

Article Abstract:

Vitkovice (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy and engineering firm, will invest 2.5 bil Kc in the repair and modernisation of the plate and sheet rolling mill Four-High 3.5. The operation of the rolling mill should be re-started in February 1999. The rolling mill's capacity will remain 600,000 t of plates and sheets per year but its dimensional accuracy will increase from tenths of millimetres to hundredths of millimetres. Besides, the equipment will be able to produce micro-alloyed plates and sheets and plates with with a longitudinal wedge-shaped profile. The investment should be recovered in seven years.

The 100th anniversary of ZDB's rolling mill

Article Abstract:

ZDB (Bohumin, Czech Republic), iron firm, will invest 70 mil Kc in the extensive reconstruction of its rolling mill Lauthovo Trio. The train, which was commissioned in 1896, will increase its annual output by one third to 18.5 t after the reconstruction. The rolling mill should roll steel with a width of 100-1,000 mm after the reconstruction compared to the hitherto 150-750 mm. The reconstruction should be completed by the end of 1999. The general supplier of the reconstruction will be Zdas (Zdar nd Sazavou, Czech Republic).
