Sir Philip Powell, a retired architect, is a familiar and well thought of figure in the British architectural industry. He sat on the Royal Fine Art Commission, served as treasurer for the Royal Academy and he is a respected competition juror. He regards judging competitions as a way of keeping in touch. He worked in partnership with Hidalgo Moya who was the person behind Skylon, Powell & Moya's best know work.

An architecture of continuity
Article Abstract:
The Powell & Moya architectural partnership spans 50 years. They won an international competition for a major new housing development in Pimlico near to the Thames in 1946, known as Churchill Gardens. Although criticised, it is one of the landmarks of post-war architecture. The partnership was involved in hospital design, schools and housing, as well as office and public buildings and exhibitions.
